Manufactured by Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas and gained by the U.S. Air Force on August 10 1967. It's civilian registration number is 337M-0063. Sept 1967 To 504th Tactical Air Support Group, 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron (Pacific Air Forces), Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam. Feb 1968 Aircraft dropped from U.S. Air Force inventory as combat loss, total hours on the airframe are unknown. Additional note: according to Author Chris Hobson's book Vietnam Air Losses, page 135, During the Tet Offensive the Citadel at Hue was captured by enemy troops and many hundreds of Vietnamese civilians were executed for callaborating with the Americans. The small airfield near the city was attacked by rocket and mortar fire and eight FAC aircraft were destroyed on the ground during the day. The O-2s had only been detached to Hue a few days before the attack took place, the other O-2A aircraft that were also destroyed in the attack were O-2A s/n 67-21339, O-2A s/n 67-21347 and O-2A s/n 67-21359. |
