This is a brief history about the United States Air Forces 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron and the single and twin engine aircraft that were operated during the Vietnam War. On April 26th 1965 the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron was activated with different detachments that operated in different locations, on May 8th 1965 it was assigned to the 2nd Air Division, on August 1st 1965 it was attached to the 6250th Tactical Air Support Group(P) at Tan Son Nhut but it was based at Da Nang, on November 8th 1965 it was reassigned to the 505th Tactical Air Control Group but it stayed at Da Nang, on December 8th 1966 it was reassigned to the 504th Tactical Air Support Group at Bien Hoa, but remained at Da Nang, on March 15th 1972 it was reassigned to the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing at Da Nang, on June 27th 1972 it was assigned to the 6498th Air Base Wing at Da Nang and than finally was reassigned to the 71st Tactical Air Support Group at George Air Force Base in California on January 15th 1973, date of inactivation is unknown. The aircraft that the 20th TASS was the O-1E, the O-1F and the O-1G single engine Bird Dog aircraft and the O-2A and OV-10A twin engine aircraft, the 20th TASS lost a total of 58 aircraft during the Vietnam War.
