AnnouncementsThis is a brief history of the United States Air Forces 22nd Tactical Air Support Squadron and the aircraft that it operated during the Vietnam War.
On April 26th 1965 the 22nd Tactical Air Support Squadron was formed under the Pacific Air Forces at Binh Thuy with different detachments at different locations, on May 8th 1965 it was assigned to the 2nd Air Division, on August 1st 1965 it was reassigned to the 6250th Tactical Air Support Group(P) at Tan Son Nhut but it stayed at Binh Thuy, on November 8th 1965 it was reassigned to the 505th Tactical Air Control Group at Tan Son Nhut,but it remained at Binh Thuy, on December 8th 1966 it was reassigned to the 504th Tactical Air Support Group at Bien Hoa, but it stayed at Binh Thuy and finally on January 15th 1971 the 22nd TAS was inactivated.
the 22nd Tactical Air Support Squadron operated the single engine O-1E, the O-1F and the O-1G Bird Dog aircraft as well as the twin engine O-2A Skymaster aircraft, it lost a total of 16 aircraft during the Vietnam War.
