9th Air Commando Squadron

AnnouncementsThe 9th Air Commando Squadron was started on January 9th 1967 under the Pacific Air Forces and was first assigned to the 14th Air Commando Wing at Nha Trang, but it was based at Pleiku, it had detachments at Bien Hoa, Binh Thuy, Da Nang, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa and Ubon Royal Thai Air Base in Thailand. On August 1st 1968 it was redesignated the 9th Special Operations Squadron and moved to Tuy Hoa on September 5th 1969, on September 30th 1971 it moved to Phan Rang and it was attached to the 377th Air Base Wing Tan Son Nhut on January 12th 1972.
It was de-activated on February 29th 1972.
The aircraft that were assigned were the AC-47D, the O-2B and the U-10D aircraft, the tail code was: ER and there were only two O-2B aircraft lost during the Vietnam War.
