Manufactured by Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas and gained by the U.S. Air Force on July 31 1967. Civilian registration number 337M-0054. Sept 1967 To 504th Tactical Air Support Group 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron (Pacific Air Forces), Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam. Aug 1968 Aircraft dropped from U.S. Air Force inventory as combat loss, hours on the airframe are currently unknown. Additional note: on August 23rd 1968 United States Air Force Captian Lon Davis Richards was flying O-2A s/n 67-21348 an O-2 detachment at Chu Lai and was providing control air strikes in the surrounding area which had become very hostile. Capt Richards was controling a series of air strikes on enemy bunkers and trenches roughly 6 miles from his base, when at 2,000 feet altitude he began taking enemy machine gun fire, Capt Richards may have been hit, there was no sign of Capt Richards abandoning his aircraft before it hit the ground. |
