 These are brief histories of the United States Air Forces Tactical Air Support Squadrons that operated during the Vietnam War with single and twin engine aircraft. 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron The 19th TASS was activated at Bien Hoa, Vietnam under the 34th Tactical Group on June 17th 1963, the 19th TASS had detachments in different locations, it was inactivated on on August 8th 1964, and again reactivated on October 31 1964 and again under the 34th Tactical Group in Bien Hoa, Vietnam. It was assigned to the 6250th Tactical Air Support Group (P) , at Tan Son Nhut on August 1st 1965, but it remained at Bien Hoa, on November 8th 1965 it was again reassigned to the 505th Tactical Air Control Group, Tan Son Nhut, but stayed at Bien Hoa. On December 8th 1966 it was again reassigned to the 504th Tactical Air Support Group at Bien and it was inactivated on January 19th 1972. The aircraft that the 19th TASS operated were the single engine O-1E, the O-1F and the O-1G Bird Dog the twin engine O-2A Skymaster as well as the OV-10A Bronco aircraft. The 19th TASS lost a total of 86 aircraft during the war. |
